Hell’s Gate 2011, The Impossible Adventure..

“Hell’s Gate” remains one of the World’s toughest motorsport events. This year just TWO riders, Brits Graham Jarvis and Dougie Lampkin finished!

After eight editions, the charm (or horror) of the event has remained unchanged. Hell’s Gate is still known as an extreme enduro but now it attracts many spectators as a one off festival of stamina.

Organiser Fabio Fasola, has given much to off-road racing, in 2011, he organized a competition which was open to all but had an extreme level of difficulty. In fact this is the formula of the race.

The victory went to Jarvis led a solo run in the morning over the first of 4 laps for 16 kilometers of the race. In the afternoon, the thirty finalists were challenged again with a different formula.

It was still a race but just to complete the five laps was an achievement given the difficulty.

Thus, the race finished with just two riders in the dark of the last killer hill. Metzeler continues to be THE tyre of choice for riders of Enduro and Extreme Enduro.

For those who have not got to know the Hell’s Gate, to have only two riders to the finish line can seem unbelievable.

Well, go and watch the video made in some of the most difficult areas of the competition and all doubts will be dispelled!

12 x Trial World Champion Dougie Lampkin takes on Extreme Enduro with Metzeler!

12 x Trial World Champion Dougie Lampkin has joined Gas Gas in 2011 to ride Extreme Enduro and the FIM Indoor Enduro World Championship using Metzeler 6 Days tyres.

The thirty-four year old British star recently came in second place in the gruelling Hells Gate Enduro after he signed a three-year contract with Gas Gas for both Enduro and Trials.

As well as continuing to compete at the highest level in both disciplines, Lampkin will also play an important role in helping Gas Gas develop both their trial and enduro products for racing activities and for end users.

The three-year agreement between Lampkin and Gas Gas represents the start of a new era for the former FIM Trial World champion, with Dougie having never previously ridden for the Girona based company.

Speaking about his move, Lampkin commented. “This is an exciting opportunity for me and one I am delighted to embrace as Gas Gas have shown a real desire and passion for me to become a part of their team. The two stroke Gas Gas enduro models are amongst the best in their class, and I think this will really help me at the indoor and extreme events. Although I have had some good results to date in these type of competitions, I feel that I can improve my performances given the benefits offered by the weight and power of the Gas Gas enduro machine and the Metzeler tyres have clearly shown they are the tyres to have in these Extreme conditions.”

Two new Moto Guzzi models unveiled at Piaggio Group Monte Carlo Conference

At the recent annual Piaggio Group international dealer meeting in Monte Carlo on the 27th and 28th January there were a couple of surprises in store.  A brand new Moto Guzzi California and a Scrambler version of the V7 were unveiled by the Group Chairman and Chief Executive Roberto Colaninno as a sign of the group’s product strategy for the future: Moto Guzzi concentrating on GT, Trail and Custom whilst the sister brand Aprillia will concentrate on hypersport and supersport models.

Boasting a 1400cc transverse V90 twin-cylinder engine, new wheels, brakes and suspension the new Moto Guzzi California is sure to continue the popularity it has already gained across five continents.  Synonomous with a generously sized tank and saddle the California offers a very comfortable ride together with reliability and of course performance and the new valve covers heighten the style making the new version even more irresistable.

Another “classic” looking new model is born in the V7 Scrambler which is equally as interesting and pleasing to the eye!  Built on the famous V7 Classic frame and fitted with a 750cc small-block engine the Scrambler’s chrome trim, spoked wheels and sporty look echoes the 175 Lodola and this is amplified with the low headlamp and fully integrated instrument panel.  A distinctive feature of the new V7 is the exhaust system with two raised side-by-side silencers adding to the overall aesthetic appeal!
