GS Trophy 2014: Four more days to go!

Eighty BMW R 1200 GS and twelve BMW R 1200 GS Adventure arrived in Calgary, Canada – and are waiting for their pilots! On Sunday morning, the first stage of the GS Trophy 2014will start – with Metzeler as the tires partner.

While the 48 participants and 16 team journalists already scrape with the boots awaiting their flights to Canadathe local organizers near Calgary do the fginal preparations: Head organizer Tomm Wolf and his team are currently on a last  scouting trip, determining the best spots and challenges during the seven days of riding.

Machinery & Tires 

The 92 bikes are well prepared; all received attachments to protect engine, cylinder, radiator, drive shaft, frame and brake fluid reservoir. Waterproof clothes and energy bars can be stowed in the luggage rack, which was mounted in place of the pillion seat. Hand protectors and brake cylinder cover are also installed; Batteries are connected, the starting numbers attached.

Robust crash bars – a combination of BMW and Touratech components – protect the plastic parts and the 125 hp Boxer engine. BMW also provides headlight protectors, the BMW Motorrad Navigator V and wider footpegs for a secure stand.

All GS machines in 2014 are equipped with the Metzeler off-road range tires: “We are partners of the GS Trophy since 2008,” says Uwe Geyer, Head of Trade & Consumer Marketing at Metzeler Germany, “and our tires have proverd their excellence in the past events , even in difficult terrain they showed excellent performance and more secure grip. “

The German team 

As Team Germany competes this time: Markus “Mäx” Eichberger (38 years) from Preissenberg, Roman Wusch (34) from Wiesbaden and Thomas Becher (48) from Stephanskirchen. They are accompanied by a German journalist as the fourth member of the team; moreover, they are under observation of camera crews of German TV  Pro7Maxx.

The team takes a great legacy: The German riders will try to defend title won  n 2012 in Chile & Argentina. but they can take the pressure: “We are quite relaxed. Sure, we want to as good as possible, but lets see whatSunday will bring…”
